Looking for Polymer and Spare Parts...
For a long time Polymer and Spare Parts became unavailable and without any way to contact me people found it hard to find copies. The fact of this was finally brought to my attention through contact with closely named fellow author, Sally Odgers, who started to pass on messages from people who thought I might be her. After this I started to make efforts to make my books available, principally by utilizing that wonderful modern invention, the Internet. I self-published Polymer and Spare Parts on Lulu.com and set up my sallyrogersdavidson@gmail.com email address.
For years I thought that nobody cared, but here are some of the lovely emails that I have received since then…

Hi, I'm a huge fan of Spare parts and it's my number 1 favourite book in the world. any way. i was wondering if you are going to publish the prequel and sequel to Spare Parts as physical book with pages i can turn? you're the best writer ever. you have my eternal gratitude for writing Spare Parts....
... it really is my fave book. i have a few problems with my body (not as bad as Panda had) but it's my dream to get a cybermorph like Kelty's. sometimes i have to remember what dumbledore said. "it does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live". i read spare parts when i was in high school, a few years before 2007. i fell in love with it. when i graduated i found out it was out of print and my parents searched every where, even overseas for a copy for me. they asked my school library and they gave it to me as a christmas present a few years ago. it holds great sentimental value to me since it holds my dream and a bit damaged/quite well read. they also have since got me 2 more copies. better condition. one of the original cover(i love that cover) and one with the new cover...
... any way. i've babbled a bit. sorry. you rock.

Back in the day when I was at high school I happened upon Polymer in the senior library and borrowed it (I was in year seven so this was no mean feat!) I borrowed this book, my life was never the same again, and I went so far as to recommend it to my sister! Imagine how happy I was when I came across your book in a bunch of books offered as prizes by my school for academic awards - suffice it to say that it was the first book I chose as my prize (and this was the only award I ever won so meant that great deal more). Fast forward ten years and my sister and I are devastated as we can no longer find the copy at my parents place (we suspect that my little sister has stolen it as she is majoring in literature at uni). We have googled, ebayed, second hand store searched, tried to contact via email and phone the publisher, tried to get it reprinted at Sydney uni AND have had friends go on second hand searches interstate. We have not been able to find copies anywhere. We have another friend who is also desperate to get a copy (so three in total AT LEAST!) When googling we were surprised at how many other people are saying the same thing (i.e. that they loved the book but cant find it or buy it anywhere). We are willing to pay for the books as well as any postage so were wondering if there is any chance that this is even a remote possibility? We are also interested in a couple of copies of spare parts as well. This would be the best Christmas present ever if you could get back to us.
This may all sound a little far fetched but I am not kidding, these are the lengths that we have gone to to try and get your books
Thanks - Lisa *and her sister Sam and friend Vicki

Hi Sally,
I first read Polymer and Spare Parts when I was in my early teens and still consider them, particularly Polymer, amongst my favourite books. 10 years on and I am slowly building up my own library of books (When I first read them I borrowed them constantly from the local library) and have been looking to buy them to add to my collection - unfortunately I have no idea where I can buy them from! Can you give me a clue?
I would love so much to be able to read them again!
Thanks,
Lauren

Dear Sally...my daughter and I read Polymer many years ago…borrowed from the local library...we have both been searching for somewhere to buy a copy for the past 15 or more years… there is a copy available at the national library in Canberra but I don't live in ACT and am not into petty larceny… is it in print and available for sale anywhere in the world that you know of ?..Good grief...we'd even read it in 'notepad'
It was such a great story and cannot understand it not being out there anywhere.
kind regards
Marguerite

I remember borrowing this book from the local library when I was a young teen and I just loved it. There's a particular magical passage that always comes to mind whenever I'm in a wide open space looking up at the sky. Every now and then I've tried to find this it so I could read it again.

Hi Sally!
I just wanted to thank you so so so very much for writing Spare Parts. I loved it and it's one of my favourite books of all time.
Being a computer nerd myself, there was so much of the book that I appreciated. It had me in fits of laughter at times too! Something else I enjoyed was that the book was based in good old Melbourne... but that's just my patriotism shining through :) I'm a Melbournian too.
I first read it towards the end of 2006, after it was recommended by a school friend who hired it from the school library. It blew me away. Then back in 2009 I tried to purchase my own copy of the book... that was extremely difficult, & I didn't end up finding a copy until 2010. After re-reading it again, I'm just like... wow!
Someone should make a movie out of it... that would be awesome. ...
... Just wanted you to know that I'm thankful you wrote Spare Parts.
It's a book that I know I'm going to read many more times throughout my life :)

… I remember the first time I read Spare Parts, I was a middle school student who picked it up one day in the [library] and fell in love with the idea and the storyline, and though I re-read it many times during my schooling, I was always left wanting more, wondering what happened to Kelty after the last pages, whether she did join the Space Corps, where her story went from there, and even several years later I still think about it occasionally…
… Spare Parts was one of the first science fiction books that I read, and it sparked a love of scifi that has continued to this day. It would give me great pleasure to be able to express my thanks to you for opening a whole new world up to my literary enjoyment.
Thank you again!

And from further afield...
Hi Sally!
Let me start by saying I'm a huge fan. Polymer was one of my favorite books as a kid, and it served as my introduction to sci-fi… A couple of years ago I remembered the book and tried to find it, but it had been so long that my copy had long since been either sold, lost, or given away. Since then I've been trying to find another copy online and in used bookstores, but I live in America, so I guess the supply wasn't very large to begin with. Do you know of anywhere I can buy a copy of the original edition, the one with the black-and-white man and the girl on the cover? It's the version I remember. Any information you could give me would be fantastic; I'd love to be able to retread one of my childhood favorites and have it for my future kids. :)
Thanks so much!
Emma

Hi Sally
I'm a huge fan of your work. I have read spare parts back in high school…
… Is Spare Parts also available as an ebook somewhere as I would like to add the book that triggered my love for sci-fi to my collection. I can't find a print, except in the library, for it anywhere in South Africa…
… To stimulate your curiosity, I am a thoroughbred South African, born and raised. I was a real bookworm growing up and the local library was one of my favourite hang-outs(what a nerd, I know). I stumbled upon Spare Parts in that library and I loved it. Pity we didn't have Polymer as well. My first language is Afrikaans and I've got books like yours to thank for my excellent English grades in school back in the day.
Ciao

Hi Sally,
I loved your book Polymer, it was one of my favourites as a teen. I google you every couple if years to see if you are online, and I was one of the people who contacted Sally Odgers to try to find you! (I love her work too).
The only thing that I have ever stolen was a Polymer paperback. It was from a library, so this really was a terrible crime, as I was also denying future readers the opportunity to discover it, but I was just SO desperate.
When my house burnt down a few years ago I risked climbing into the unstable wreckage to retrieve my precious copy of Polymer. It was a little damp from the fireman's hose but miraculously unscorched.
I'm so GLAD I can buy polymer now, and I'm looking forward to reading spare parts too.
Thank you for writing such a wonderful book,
Your criminal friend Kristy
